“She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
I remember a song I used to love back when I was in High School. It was a song written and sung by Tim Sheppard. I think the words to his song are powerful and gets at the reason why Jesus came:
Little Baby in a manger, Son of God above
Born to die for all our sin, yes I believe in love
Love has triumphed, death is finished, I cannot conceive
Why one so lovely, one so kind, would give new life to me
Born to die to rise again, to crush the power of Satan’s sin
I lift my voice, I shout and sing: “Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna to the King!”
What can this poor, wounded soul bring to a mighty King?
Can He who holds the world in space have need of anything?
Yet my soul shall never cease to offer gifts of praise
I kneel in spirit at His feet, a sinner saved by grace
Jesus came to this earth as fully man and fully God. He was born to die a very cruel death but also to rise again and crush the power of Satan, sin, and death forever. We have nothing to offer Him but ourselves, who saves us from our sin and offers us new life. We have every reason to bring Him gifts of thanksgiving and praise. We now live with grateful hearts back to Him. He laid aside the glory and privileges of heaven to come to earth as a lowly child in a feeding trough for animals. He then endured death on a cross and bore our sin. Do you believe in His love? …the kind of love that took the initiative on your behalf so that you can have a right relationship with God?
May our gift of praise and adoration be seen in our lives this Christmas. Take time to think about all that He has done on your behalf and then, with a grateful heart, share the Great News with someone else.
Hosanna to the King!
